cultural mishaps

Instead of making 10,000 twitter posts I’m making a longer post while the cleaners do their magic. (It’s a long story but I’m not paying for it either.) By the end of today I will have a clean apartment and SOME furniture! And, universe willing, I will have bought a washer that will be delivered tomorrow. The last one’s a stretch, but not the next-day delivery part.

& the bank, where I get my paychecks direct deposited, thinks my middle name is ラメン and it is printed that way on my ATM card. In roman letters, this would read “ramen” - two people have already decided that’s a new nickname - and is only vaguely close to what my middle name would be in an accurate transliteration. I only had to put my first and last names in Japanese letters on the form, but someone decided my middle name should be on there too. I believe the official name on the account is my full name in CAPSLOCKED ROMAN LETTERS, but if there’s an issue with the account this “ramen” middle name might cause problems.
